The Presidential Office Building Built during the time of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, the Presidential Office Building is recognizable from a distance. The Tower stands 60 metres high. The impressive Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is the most popular attraction in Taipei City. Built in 1955, the National Museum of History has a large collection of artifacts from the Island of Taiwan and from mainland China. Longshan Temple in Taipei was originally built by settlers from Fujian Province, the closest point to Taiwan on the mainland. The temple has undergone many resurrections due to fire and earthquake. During World War Two the American Air force destroyed the temple claiming that it was a storage facility for weapons by the occupying Japanese. Established in 1937 during the Japanese occupation Taroko National park is named after Taroko Gorge, the landmark gorge of the park. The gorge is also known as Marble Gorge due to the large quantities of the valued stone found here.
